Type 2 diabetes screening
Did you know that type 2 diabetes accounts for 90% of all diabetes cases worldwide? In fact, approximately 374 million people are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Lions can help reduce these numbers by organizing type 2 diabetes screening events in their communities.
Type 2 diabetes screening is an important way to help individuals understand their risk while also making our communities healthier. In the short term, screenings help community members learn about diabetes and understand their current health status. If necessary, they can also be referred for care. All of this leads to an overall improved quality of life.
What is a type 2 diabetes screening event?
A type 2 diabetes screening event provides community members with type 2 diabetes education, awareness and screening services, including referral services. Lions clubs work with medical professionals and other community partners to determine screening methods and any necessary equipment.
Did you know during 2019-2020 Lions and Leos conducted nearly 5,600 type 2 diabetes risk awareness and screening events?
