Leo Grants
Leos play such an important role in the service mission of Lions. We value the contributions of young people to their communities as volunteers and service leaders. Anything we can do to encourage and enhance their service is a win for us all—Lions, communities and the world.
LCIF Leo Service Grant Program
With the support of LCIF, Leos can make a bigger impact in their communities, while being exposed to valuable leadership and life skills.
Our Strategy
Grants are available to Lions districts and multiple districts in amounts from US$1,500 to US$5,000 to address unmet humanitarian needs in their community. Leos must be directly involved in organizing and implementing the project.
Successful applications will include a robust hands-on service or volunteer component. In addition, collaboration between Lions and Leos is required for the project.
Examples
- Leos painted, cleaned, and repaired a community center. Working together, Leos and Lions helped repair the building. The grant supported the purchase of paint, paintbrushes, trash bags, and small repairs in the building.
- Leos built a sensory garden in a playground for people with disabilities. Lions assisted the Leos to obtain necessary permits from local authorities. Leos and Lions did all of the labor to establish the garden. The grant supported the purchase of benches, plants, and paving stones.
- Leos hosted a dinner for seniors by preparing and distributing meals. Lions supported Leos with fundraising matching funds and managing logistics. Grant funds were used to purchase food, plates, and utensils.
Application and Deadline
Applications for the Leo Service Grant are accepted on a rolling basis. Applications should be submitted to LCIF at minimum 90 days prior to the project commencement. Please submit applications to LCIFLeogrants@lionsclubs.org.
Leo Leadership Grant Program
The Leo Leadership Grant Program provides financial assistance to a Lions multiple district, sub-district or single district interested in organizing a Leo leadership conference. The goal of the program is to further develop Leos' leadership skills, specifically in the areas of project management, communication, creativity and innovation, teamwork and planning community service projects.
Lions International awards a maximum of twenty-four US$2,000 reimbursable grants each fiscal year. The Leo Club Program Department reviews applications in the order in which they are received and approves eligible grants based on the content of the application.
Events that are chosen to receive a Leo Leadership Grant must use the curriculum for at least one session in the Leo Advancement Sessions. Session options include Working in Teams, Public Speaking, Member Motivation and Time Management.
Application and Deadline
To apply, complete the Leo Leadership Grant Application and email your completed application to the Leo Club Program Department at leo@lionsclubs.org.
Applications are accepted between July 1 and May 1, or until funds are no longer available.
ELLI Leo Grant
Funds are available to support opportunities for Leos and Lions to learn together and from each other through the Emerging Lions Leadership Institute (ELLI). Leadership Development Institute Grant Program recipients are eligible to receive additional funding when Leos are included as participants. To make training accessible to more Leos, institute hosts are strongly encouraged to provide financial assistance or discounts to Leos in advance of the ELLI to reduce the financial barriers that may prevent Leo attendance.
Funds are available for multiple districts, single districts and/or undistricted areas.
Application and Deadline
To receive the ELLI Leo Grant, ELLI organizers must be approved for Leadership Development Institute Grant funding. There is not a separate application for the ELLI Leo Grant. Applications for the Leadership Development Institute Grant will be available May-October 15 annually.
Review the eligibility criteria to ensure the Leos attending the ELLI are properly reported to qualify for the ELLI Leo Grant.
Leos Get Things Done
Leos everywhere are taking on projects to improve their local communities and the world. They are not only our future leaders, they are the ones shaping the future for generations to come.
