The Leo Advancement Sessions (LAS) are opportunities for Leos to develop and enhance their leadership skills. Any or all of these sessions could be implemented as part of a conference, forum or officer training. However, recipients of the Leo Leadership Grant are required to utilize at least one Leo Advancement Session during their event.
Session materials
Working in teams
Participants will discuss the characteristics of effective teams and learn about the importance of ensuring team members feel safe to take risks and share ideas. They will then learn strategies to make their Leo teams stronger.
Session length: 90 minutes
Time management
Using a case study for reference, participants will discuss the importance of time management, recognize obstacles and identify strategies for achieving effective time management.
Session length: 60 minutes
Public speaking
In this two-part session, participants will discuss techniques for effective speech delivery, develop an outline, deliver a 3-5 minute speech and learn the difference between giving a speech online and in person.
Session 1 length: 90 minutes
Session 2 length: 70 minutes
Member motivation
Participants will discuss the difference between extrinsic (external) and intrinsic (internal) motivation, as well as how to promote intrinsic motivation among team members.
Session length: 90 minutes
