Diabetes peer support groups

There are 463 million people living with diabetes around the world. Diabetes peer support groups allow your club, district or multiple district to actively support the diabetes community through hands-on service.

In the short term, diabetes peer support group participants establish connection and learn diabetes management skills from their peers. Over time, participants will feel a sense of community and acceptance that can lead to a better quality of life.

Diabetes peer support group testimonials

"I wanted to learn more so that I could make a difference. It can also increase your membership and volunteer helpers. There is very little monetary outlay for the club, just a small number of members' time and effort."
Lion David Morris, PDG
Congleton Lions Club England, District 105CN
"Support Groups help so much as everyone can swap ideas, solutions and through this they don’t feel alone. Make sure you have professional help to run the meetings. Listen sympathetically and don’t be judgmental."
Lion Anne Bowles
Mijas La Cala Lions Spain, District 116b
"Support groups offer flexibility. Our “Walk and Talk Diabetes” support group evolved into inviting community members to walk and talk in various local parks, community centers, and camp grounds instead of meeting in a club house."
Lion Michael Sarin
Toronto Doctors Lions Club Canada, District A-711
